Highlands Complete Home Renovation

This was a whole house renovation of a 1920 era duplex in the Highland/Morningside area of Atlanta. The homeowner elected to retain the duplex status while making a future conversion to a single family home simple and inexpensive. A custom kitchen was installed in the downstairs unit, while a fairly recent kitchen upgrade was recycled into a second kitchen in the upstairs unit. All of the porches were rebuilt, and a second brick and steel column was added to the rear porch to match the front. The attic and basement were finished to add storage and living space, while addressing structural issues that had worsened over time. A half bath was added to the downstairs unit in a nook under the stairs, maximizing every inch of the home's interior. Much of the original woodwork, oak floors, and even some plaster walls were salvaged, repaired, and re-used, both for environmental reasons and to preserve the character of the original design.
